Grosmimi straw cups, sturdily made with domestic Korean technology, are gaining significant popularity among mothers.
Kizmom spoke with Grosmimi to hear the brand story and learn practical tips on straw cup care.
GoGreenLife may sound unfamiliar by name, but most mothers have likely heard of its brands “My Baby” and “Grosmimi.”
Through these two brands, GoGreenLife sparked the popularity of domestically produced straw cups. As its name suggests, the company pursues eco-friendly values.
Accordingly, all accessories other than baby bottles and straw cups are designed in green, and green is widely used across product packaging and brochures.
Grosmimi straw cups combine leak-proof performance with cute, child-friendly design. Even if a child drops the straw cup while using it,
water or beverages do not spill. The addition of a spout function for younger children has made the product especially popular among
mothers helping their babies transition away from baby bottles.
Kizmom: Please briefly introduce the company and the brand.
GoGreenLife was established as a corporation in 2004. Originally, we were an IT company, and we entered the baby bottle and straw cup business in 2008.
At that time, we were importers rather than manufacturers. While importing baby bottles, we felt a contradiction in having
Korean babies use products designed for foreign babies. After realizing that imported products did not fit Korean babies well, we decided
to develop products suited specifically to Korean babies.
We first succeeded in development and applied the technology to the imported baby bottle brand “My Baby,” which we then launched.
These included teats, spout teats, and silicone teats. Silicone components are the most challenging to develop,
whereas plastic parts are relatively easier. After My Baby became a hit, we launched the Grosmimi brand as well.
Kizmom: What are Grosmimi’s proprietary technologies or strengths?
We focused on two main points during product development.
First, products must be easy for Korean babies to latch onto. To achieve this, we made the teats and spout teats very soft.
Smooth airflow is essential for babies to suck comfortably. Babies want milk or water to flow naturally as they suck, so we applied an air valve system.
This valve reduces internal pressure after liquid is added to the cup. The silicone straw is also cut in a plus (+) shape, preventing backflow
and leakage even when inverted, which mothers find very convenient.
Second, the products must be compatible with items mothers already own. Korean mothers often use bottles from multiple brands but prefer teats from one brand
because of compatibility. We therefore designed our baby bottles, teats, and spout teats to be interchangeable.
Since they fit bottles already at home, the response has been very positive.
Kizmom: Grosmimi is very popular at baby fairs.
We participate in fairs so consumers can touch and test the products directly.
Even with online or SNS advertising, it’s hard for customers to buy baby products without seeing them in person.
Baby fairs are where mothers gather most densely, making them effective venues for product introduction. We also receive many questions on-site.
Surprisingly, many people are unfamiliar with the principles behind baby bottle use. When mothers mention issues like babies
refusing bottles or breast milk, we often explain the underlying reasons.
Kizmom: Do you closely monitor mothers’ feedback?
Absolutely. We operate online experience groups and closely review mothers’ feedback every day. One memorable review said
a baby successfully stopped using a bottle thanks to our straw cup. Another mentioned that by purchasing only a straw refill while continuing
to use the same bottle, the baby naturally transitioned away from teats. Receiving thank-you messages by email or phone is extremely rewarding.
Kizmom: What should mothers consider when choosing a straw cup?
First, the product must match the baby’s age in months. Around six months, mothers start considering straw cups for complementary feeding.
At this stage, the teat must be soft enough for babies to suck. Hard teats make sucking difficult and may harm gums.
Younger babies need softer teats, while older babies shake cups more, so leak-proof performance becomes critical.
fter about 18 months, hard types are acceptable, as children understand that shaking causes spills.
Kizmom: What is the recommended replacement cycle?
For daily use, silicone parts such as straws and teats should be replaced every three months, and plastic bottles every six months.
Cleaning is just as important as replacement. Our straws have a cross-cut tip; scrubbing vertically with a straw brush can tear them and cause leaks.
Instead, the brush should be rotated side to side. While air valve systems usually make cleaning difficult, all our products are fully detachable,
making them easy and hygienic to clean. Among straw cups currently on the market, ours are the easiest to clean.
Kizmom: What prompted the shift from importing to domestic production?
Korea has excellent technology, and babies can certainly be raised with domestic products, yet many parents still prefer foreign brands. In reality,
domestic baby products account for less than 10% of the market. We also believed success in Korea alone was not enough and set our sights
on overseas markets, which required domestic production. Currently, our products are available in China and Taiwan, with shipments planned for
Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Response in Taiwan has been especially strong, and brand awareness in China is steadily increasing.
Kizmom: What challenges do domestic companies face when expanding overseas?
For SMEs, establishing overseas branches is difficult, so finding reliable local partners is essential—and challenging.
There is always a risk of fraud. Additionally, baby products require approval from local health authorities or food and drug administrations,
which is not easy to obtain.
Kizmom: Any final message?
GoGreenLife will continue working to replace imported baby products with domestically produced alternatives.
Next year, we plan to localize products such as newborn nail clippers and prepare baby food tableware for children who use our bottles and straw cups.
We hope more “Made in Korea” baby products will emerge so Korean babies can be raised with Korean products.
We also hope GoGreenLife will continue to grow alongside Kizmom.
